Equestrian Competition
for Riders with Special Needs
One of Dream Riders strategic directions
is to promote and develop meaningful equestrian competition for riders
with special needs who are interested in equestrian competition.
Dream Riders belief is that competition
is totally voluntary and can be a meaningful outlet for riders with special
needs to show themselves, friends, and the general public how they to can
achieve personal goals in comparison with fellow equestrian riders.
Dream Riders does have several riders who
participate in the Special Olympics Equestrian Sport which is offered here
in South Carolina. Two of our riders competed as members of
"Team USA" at the 2003 World Summer Games competing in the Equestrian Sport.

Dream Riders
Presently hosts Equestrian Competitions
for riders with special needs.
Dream Riders Fun Day
-
A small informal Fun Day activity for riders,
their families, and all involved in the Dream Riders program.
-
All riders are given a chance to show all
in attendance their favorite equestrian games and how everyone is
a winner.
-
Location for this competition is at the Dream
Riders facility.
Dream Riders Invitational
Equestrian Competition for Riders with Special Needs
-
A large formal Equestrian Competition designed
by using rider skill divisions so as to base competition on each rider's
skill level.
-
This level of competition is based on a set
of competition rules and standards set by Dream Riders and the Special
Olympics Equestrian Sport coaches throughout South Carolina.
-
All SC Equestrian Riding Programs for people
with special needs are sent invitations to attend this competition held
annually.
-
Additionally Dream Riders working with the
South Carolina Special Olympics has incorporated Special Olympics Equestrian
Sport Classes into this annual equestrian competition.
-
Location for this competition is held at one
of the larger equestrian facilities in SC with a covered arena. This
is to reduce the effects of weather conditions.
Open Horse Shows
-
Several of the Dream Riders' independent riders
do compete at several open horse shows, in the walk / trot classes.
AQHA
Horse Shows
-
American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA)
just unveiled Equestrians with Disabilities Competition
-
Dream Riders will review requirements and
pole our riders for possible interest, in that our program presently has
three AQHA horses which is one requirement needed to compete in AQHA shows.
-
Additionally we may incorporate these type
AQHA
classes into our Annual Invitational Equestrian Competition in the future.
